Возвращение группы Leftfield с Turbosound

AS THE WORLD NOW KNOWS Leftfield are back on tour. With live dates across the UK and around the world, the band are turning up the bass on Britannia Row Productions' Turbosound Aspect rig and showing everyone what they have been missing for 10 years.

Leading the dance music charge of the early '90s, Leftfield carved a path for a raft of great artists including Underworld, The Chemical Brothers & The Prodigy. Their live shows are without doubt the stuff of legend.

Billed as the band's biggest tour in a decade, Neil Barnes is joined on stage by original vocalists Djum Djum, Earl 16, and Cheshire Cat, for a tour that demonstrates once again why Leftfield Live is one of the must-see live music experiences on the planet. Completing the live line up will be Adam Wren (keyboards), Jess Mills (vocals) and Sebastian Beresford on drums.

Following a series of succ essful summer festival performances that included Rockness and L.E.D., the tour kicked off with indoor dates starting in November in Leeds, followed by Manchester, Glasgow, Liverpool, Bournemouth, Plymouth, and Bristol, and culminating in homecoming shows at Brixton's O2 Academy, long being hailed as London's flagship venue and a must-play for artists and must-visit for music lovers.

With a capacity of almost 5,000, Brixton Academy is truly one of a kind on the circuit and combines the feeling of an electrifying arena-size atmosphere, with great views because of its sloping floor and incredible capabilities for production.

When Leftfield last played Brixton, back in 1996, they quite literally brought the house down, although that's another story! Slightly excessive sound levels in the bass department caused sections of plaster to detach themselves from the ceiling of the magnificent art deco interior - which features an elaborate proscenium arch based on the design of Venice's famous Rialto Bridge. A quad Turbosound Floodlight system with no less than 40 subs was involved...

Fourteen years on, and the sound system for the 2010 sell-out tour is based around a Turbosound Aspect TA-890 system supplied by leading UK rental company Britannia Row Productions, and features one of the first major outings for Turbosound's new TFM-560 wedge monitors.

System tech Nico Royan explains the Aspect setup for the Brixton shows: "The ground stacks are supplemented with 2-wide, 5-deep flown arrays in venues where we've been able to fly, based on software predictions run by myself and Turbosound's Dom Harter," he says.

"Although each venue needs a different setup, we were so impressed with the results in Manchester that we saw no reason to change it for Brixton - although we have beefed up the low end to suit the larger room."

The ground stacks are configured each side of the stage with a six-high stack of TSW-218 double 18" folded horn subs, then two more six-high stacks each consisting of five TA-890L double 15" low frequency cabinets and a TA-890H mid/high for near field coverage, and then a further TA-890H mid/high in ‘B' mode positioned on the stage lip for in-fill.

Processing is by Lake LM26 units, one at front-of-house, routed through a Dante digital audio network, with a further five units built into a custom-built flight case. Amplification is by Yamaha's T5ns, with Powersoft T9s on the subs.

Monitor engineer Mike Gibbard is running Turbosound's new TFM-560 dual 12" neodymium wedge monitors powered by RACKDP-50 amplifiers, normally four across the front - or six if stage width permits - plus four risers behind each with two wedges configured in stereo.

Always traditionally strong in low end, the band's material is plentiful in low frequencies, derived from an abundance of samples being triggered on stage and from the hugely impressive drum and percussion setup.

"When we fired up the PA in Bournemouth the confetti of plaster drifting down from the ceiling caused a few wry smiles, and generated a little concern in Plymouth," muses Royan, "we're all looking forward to being back in Brixton... it's sure to be a rocking show!"
